Information Description and Instructions Below | |||||||||||
| Robert Service lived in the Yukon (Yukon Territory) from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. He penned some of his most sought after poetry in his log cabin overlooking Dawson City. Listed below are four of Service's top poems. Many of his poems capture the essence of the Klondike gold rush and life in the Yukon during that era. Alaska shares much of the same gold rush history and many of the same elements Service wrote about in his poetry. After the gold rush peaked in Dawson City, the stampeders continued onward to Alaska; first to Nome, then to Fairbanks. Because of our shared history, Service's poems resonate with Alaskans and are recited regularly at venues around the state. | |||||||||||
