History
Service began writing poetry while working as a banker in Whitehorse, and later, in his log cabin overlooking Dawson City. Many of Service's poems capture the essence of the Klondike Gold Rush and life in the Yukon during that era.
After the gold rush peaked in Dawson stampeders journeyed to Nome, Alaska and later settled in Fairbanks. Because of Alaska's shared gold rush history, Service's poems are sometimes recited at venues in the state.
